木片琴(Xylophone)在當地又稱為Balafon，已經被列入世界文化遺產。在喜慶活動、聚會甚至是葬禮時也是當地人愛演奏的樂器。
 
當地非洲木片琴通常大概會有15至20塊木板，即15至20個音調，更會就地取材用乾了的葫蘆裝在下面，以作擴音之用。每一條木板的音調高低取決於其長度與厚度，短而厚的木板會發出較高的聲音，把一些木板的背面削去成不同的拱形更可發出不同聲音。
 
這款迷你版的木片琴只有8個音調， 但製造方法及音色和大的都無異，都能彈奏出傳統非洲樂韻。
 
 
The African xylophone is also called a balaphone in West Africa. This traditional instrument is made by Ghanaian xylophone masters from the Centre of National Culture.
Each small xylophone includes 8 wooden notes with calabash gourd resonators of decreasing size, while the larger ones normally include 15 to 20 wooden notes for professional players. The entire piece is lashed with strips of goatskin.
 
This beautifully tuned African musical instrument is as inviting to the eye as to the hand.
