姆指鋼琴有如其名，是以姆指彈撥發聲的樂器。在以前，Kalimba 並非以鐵片發聲，而是以竹為琴鍵。改良後聲音更為亮耳。
 
As this instrument’s name said, it is played by plucking the tines with the thumbs. In the old days, the keys of Kalimba are made of bamboo instead of metal. After amendment, the sound of Kalimba becomes brighter and sharper.
